I started a Youtube Channel

That’s right, I took the plunge and uploaded my first ever Youtube video. I’m not going to lie, I’ve always watched my favourite ‘influencers’ (is that the correct term, I don’t know?!) and thought to myself how easy it must be to video yourself doing fun stuff for a living. But the reality is, it’s a lot harder work than I thought it would be, and I uploaded what should be just a simple haul.

That being said, I really enjoyed filming it and feel like it’s an opportunity to get more of my personality across. My first thought watching it back was ‘Cringe, do I really sound like that? Why is my makeup not showing up on camera? Did I really just say beautiful and pretty way too many times?’ But I guess nothing is perfect the first time you do it!

Wedding Guest Outfits
I aim to upload every 2 weeks to begin with and see how I get on. I’m not committing to a strict schedule right now. You can expect to see hauls as I am a fashion addict, beauty related content, occasional vlogs and general day to day life.

It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but have been hesitant as I was too worried about people judging me, but after falling ill a number of years ago it made me realise how important it is to embrace life and do the things you want to do regardless of any negative opinions. I don’t even expect anyone to watch it but it feels like a kind of accomplishment for myself.

But, if you have the time, I’d love for you to check out my channel and if you’re feeling really kind, feel free to hit the thumbs up or even stretch to hitting that subscribe button!

Why you need a Silk Pillowcase

At the beginning of the year I made a promise to myself to take better care of my skin and hair. My mum suggested trying out a Silk pillowcase because she was fed of up my constant moaning about waking up with creases on my face from lying in one position and not to mention my frizzy, uncontrollable mess of hair.

The only down side is that some Silk fabrics hold onto heat, therefore making you sweat, so I wanted to make sure that I found a good quality Silk, because let me tell you, they don’t come cheap. My husband and I decided to use our John Lewis Wedding gift voucher to make the splurge, plus it was the only place I could find that stocked it in white as most websites only seemed to have Ivory (you can tell we’re getting old when we’re excited about Silk pillowcases…what has married life done to us?!) So, the question is, has it been worth the investment?

People said I would see the benefits immediately, but at first I just couldn’t tell a difference. I kept slipping down the pillow, and instantly regretted spending so much on something I thought I wouldn’t use. Fast forward to a couple of weeks later and now I can’t go to bed without it!

Not only do I feel like I’m sleeping in luxury, but the Silk feels so smooth against my skin and hair. My hair no longer feels like it’s getting dragged around when I toss and turn, instead it just glides across the pillow, keeping frizz to a minimum. I love how cooling it feels against my skin, especially convenient for these hot summery nights we’ve been having here in the UK recently.

The great thing I’ve noticed since changing to a Silk pillowcase is that my night creams no longer get absorbed into the fabric like they did with my standard cotton pillowcase. This is because silk is made up of protein fibres, meaning all the lotions and potions I slap on my face before bed are no longer getting soaked up. And c’mon, who wants to waste all that hard work and dollar trying to keep skin moisturised for it all to get wasted on a pillowcase? Not me. Silk is the way forward let me tell you!

Whilst my skin works overtime during the night; taking it’s time to repair and regenerate, I can now relax with my lavender scented candles and drift off on my luxe silk pillowcase, without the worry of creasing up my face and waking up with hair resembling Marv from Home Alone when he got electrocuted (Google it if you don’t know)! Hallelujah! So if you’re thinking of making the switch to Silk, I say go for it, it definitely has a thumbs up from me!

L’oreal Elvive Dream Lengths

Do you ever see hair commercials on TV and wonder how the models have such luscious looking locks with not a split end in sight? I definitely do, so when I heard about the new  L’oreal Elvive hair care range ‘Dream Lengths’ claiming to help restore and protect split ends so you don’t need a haircut quite as often, I couldn’t help but add it to my basket.

My hair is medium to long in length and prone to split ends (definitely due to the fact I avoid a trip to the hairdressers at all costs). I really wish I was one of those people that enjoy having their haircut and soak up what should be relaxing ‘me’ time. But I’m just not that gal. Instead, I sit there staring in the mirror with fear clearly written all across my face, wondering if they’re going to chop too much off, (which, let me tell you, has definitely been the case one too many times!) So you can imagine my joy when I got my hands on the new collection.

The mixture of ingredients including Keratin, Vitamins and Castor Oil sounded like it could transform my limp, lifeless looking hair to somewhat red carpet ready.

I picked up all four products from the range whilst Boots had an offer on: (The Restoring Shampoo, Detangling Conditioner, Long Hair Mask & No Haircut Cream; the latter is really what sold it to me). To say my expectations were high would be an understatement.

The first thing I noticed was the scent and the added sparkle, it instantly reminded me of holiday. I’ve been so impressed with the results and highly recommend the Dream Lengths range. Not only does it leave my hair smelling divine, but it looks so much healthier with less visible split ends and feels more nourished and silky smooth! What more could I ask for?

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-aging + Intensive Repair Daily Serum Review

Being 28 years young, I knew the day would come when I’d start to notice the unfortunate visible signs of ageing in my skin. My first thought was ‘well it’s all down hill from here, there’s no hope now’ until I popped into my local Boots store where the lovely ladies at the Elizabeth Arden counter gave me a sample of their bestselling serum from the Prevage range.

The Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-aging + Intensive Repair Daily Serum is said to work it’s magic immediately to help reduce signs of visible ageing and overtime to combat environmental damage. There are 2 key ingredients; Idebenone, which works to help support the skin’s natural collagen and Arazine, which soothes the skin whilst still protecting against free radicals and reducing any signs of ageing caused by chronic inflammation. With continued use, the serum is said to significantly reduce the visible appearance of age spots, wrinkles and even deep lines.

So after hearing all of the benefits this serum had to offer and with the hope it would make me look 18 again (gee, the thought that I was 18 ten years ago is scary.. take me back to the days of plump, tight skin) I was intrigued to find out if this bottle of magic was worth the price tag; oh yes, I was pretty gobsmacked to find out this actually retails for a whopping £170…I KNOW!

I’d been trying to make the sample last for as long as possible, using it once or twice a day after cleansing and before moisturizing and it lasted 3 weeks. So after 3 weeks of putting it to the test here’s what I thought.

After several uses I noticed a total difference to the texture of my skin. It’s truly never felt so smooth. It made applying makeup so easy; my foundation glided on like a dream. It felt like the serum almost acted as a primer.

The serum itself is yellow in colour and appeared to give my skin a healthy golden glow.
As for helping to reduce signs of ageing, I definitely felt like it did something. My skin had never looked so radiant! My husband even said “wow what have you done to your face, it looks so smooth and tanned” .. I’ll take that!

I have a deep line next to my eye from being in hospital for a prolonged period of time and laying on the same side. It really gets me down so I was hoping the serum would help to reduce the appearance of it, which it did, ever so slightly, but I feel like if I continued using it it could help reduce it’s visibility even more.

Would I buy this again? Only if I won the lottery or received it as a gift! I personally just don’t think I could justify spending that amount of money on a beauty/skincare product, even if it did make my skin look the best it’s ever looked.

2018 Spring/Summer Trends

With the UK embracing this weeks heatwave, I thought it was only right to dedicate this post to my current favourite Spring/Summer trends and after a bit of an online splurge, I’ve found some great versatile pieces which I can’t wait to wear throughout the season.

If you didn’t notice already, then where have you been hiding, but straw bags are everywhere this Spring! They come in all shapes and sizes and have pretty much become everyone’s new favourite arm accessory. I’ve definitely jumped on the fashionable picnic bag bandwagon!

I certainly didn’t want to break the bank for a trend that may not be in next Summer so I was extremely happy when I spotted this one from Topshop, retailing at just £27 (unfortunately it did sell out pretty quickly so I’ve linked a similar version here). This bag evokes coastal vibes to me and adds a boho twist to any outfit. I’ve already had so much wear out of it and can’t wait to take this on an upcoming Summer vacay. Not only is it the perfect size to fit my necessities in but the circular shape adds a quirky dimension to a style which I love!

Is Summer even Summer if you don’t have a broderie anglaise item in your wardrobe? There’s something about broderie anglaise that takes me back to my childhood. It’s a simple, timeless style that looks so expensive and is a staple for my Spring/Summer wardrobe every year. What appears to be a dress, is actually a playsuit from Zara and I am in love. I have been wearing this non stop, and even picked it up in navy too. On cooler days I throw on a black leather jacket or an over-sized denim jacket, grab some white pumps and I’m good to go. It’s such an easy, classic piece to style and is a must have!

Usually I opt for a very neutral palette, but I thought I’d add a pop of colour into my wardrobe this season and with pastel blue being a big trend this Spring/Summer I thought I’d spice up my outfits a little.

This dress was the perfect choice to add colour without being too statement. The white  ditsy floral print helps tone down the fact that I’m wearing a colour I normally wouldn’t. The tortoise shell buttons are huge this season and I love that they run down the front of the dress; I choose to unbutton some from the bottom to show a bit more leg (why not embrace that summer tan and get a bit of leg out!) Teamed with some white pumps and an over-sized denim jacket I love how feminine, yet still casual this outfit is. Praying for a good Summer so I can get the wear out of this little number.

Is there a better way to show off your tan than wearing a fresh crisp white dress? I don’t think so. This is an Asos own brand linen dress with tortoise shell buttons; which I don’t know about you but I’ve been seeing a lot of recently! I feel like as soon as an item has this style of button sewn on, it immediately becomes so much more chic and expensive looking. I can safely say I will be living in this dress. The lightweight linen fabric makes feels so comfortable and can we appreciate that it has pockets…yes pockets (dresses with pockets are always a winner in my eyes)! Teamed with my Topshop straw bag, the tones really compliment each other.

A mix of safari shorts and an embroidered corset which to me screams mermaid vibes, definitely shouldn’t mix but somehow I just love this outfit. After watching HelloOctober’s recent haul on Youtube, I loved the corset top she tried on which I’d previously been eyeing up on Topshop. The top looked so good on her that I thought I’d give it try and it didn’t disappoint.

It’s definitely a more ‘out there’ piece for me, but I love it nonetheless. It’s so easy to dress up or down and I love the intricate embroidery detailing, it’s unlike anything else I’ve seen on the high street. I’ve been wearing it with black trousers and black court heels for evening drinks , with distressed denim shorts for festivals/parties or as shown in the photo for a bbq with family.

Shorts with a paper-bag waist are an essential for me year after year. The way they cinch you in at the waist is so flattering and the elasticated waist band definitely hides that food baby from all those ice creams you’ve been eating on holiday. These are essentially safari shorts with a feminine twist and the neutral sand shade just makes it so versatile to style!

Bag of the Season

Straw and wooden style bags are a big hit this Spring/Summer and if you don’t want to pay the price tag of the Cult Gaia Ark Bamboo Bag that everyone is talking about, then I have found the perfect designer alternative.

This chic half circle bag, handmade from Bamboo, just screams French Riviera vibes and for just £28.99 from a fantastic eBay seller, I couldn’t say no.

The Cult Gaia Ark Bag has been seen on many celebs, including the beautiful Jessica Alba but I just couldn’t justify the price and when I came across Katelavie’s Instagram feed I  just loved how she styled the bag. I instantly wanted to recreate a similar look and I’m so happy I managed to get my hands on the bag of the season at a fraction of the price.

I have a Wedding coming up in Cyprus toward the end of the year and it will make the perfect clutch to go with my outfit!

I love how versatile and statement this bag is. I’ve been teaming it with white culotte trousers and a simple floral cami top; adding this bag just makes any outfit effortlessly stylish.

This bag is also available in a variety of shades. I opted for the natural beige but I’m tempted to get it in the white too as I already know this is going to be a staple in my wardrobe. The neutral shade also makes it versatile enough to be teamed with pretty much any outfit, from a flowy beach dress on those summer vacay’s to a simple tee and jeans for lunch with the girls. This is a bag that goes with everything and is perfect for any occasion.

Not only is the bag a delight to look at, it’s also lightweight and roomy enough to carry everything I need. It comes in 2 sizes; I chose to go with the small and it’s the perfect size to fit my necessities in.

It’s different to any bag I’ve ever owned and I can’t wait for the sun to start shining so I can start wearing it. It really is an eye catcher!

Another way I’ve chosen to style the bag is by popping a satin paisley print scarf around the handle and tied into a bow.  This gives the bag a more boho, casual vibe and I’m 100% down for that look.

2018 Skincare Routine

Over the years I have experimented with many skincare brands, but for the past few years I have been using the same products and skincare routine and it has been working wonders for my skin.

I’ve indulged in my fair share of high end skincare products mainly because I’m a sucker for the beautiful packaging, but over the years I’ve always gone back to my Boots Simply Sensitive Face Cleansing Lotion which I use both in the morning and at night. I love the simplicity of this product, it’s not overloaded with ingredients but does contain aloe vera which feels so soothing on the skin. I apply with just my fingers in the morning, and a cotton pad in the evening. It’s so quick and easy and within minutes my skin is left feeling soft and refreshed.

You may or may not have heard about the moisturiser loved amongst many celebrities from Kate Beckinsale to Joanna Lumley. Astral Cream is known to keep skin looking plump and hydrated, I have used this since a course of acne treatment left my skin looking and feeling dry and lifeless. I use this day and night. It is a very rich moisturiser that takes a fair while to sink in but smells like a dream and feels so nourishing on the skin.

I feel like this is a very Marmite product, you either love or hate it. I love it and definitely feel like it needs more recognition. Astral Cream has been used through the generations of my family, once used by my Gran who had the most beautiful and youthful skin, my mum also swears by this stuff and now I’ve hopped on the bandwagon.

One of the main reasons I love this moisturiser is because it’s simple, it’s not packed full of ingredients, it just does what a mosituriser should do; deliver extra moisture to hydrate the skin. I’ve tried so many moisturisers which contain so many perfumes and ingredients which just leaves my skin irrtitated. I’ve found the more simple I keep my skincare routine, the calmer my skin is. So if like me you struggle with dry skin and you’re in the market for a new moisturiser, this is definitely worth a try!

I exfoliate approximately once, sometimes twice a week depending on how much makeup I have worn and literally swear by The Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream with Microbeads. After cleansing I massage this into my skin, wash away with warm water and then splash with cold water to close my pores before moisturing. It’s gentle on the skin just like it says in the title. It smells so delicious I could just eat it up! This is very much a creamy exfoliator that helps eliminate the dead skin cells and impurities. Every time I use this, I feel like my skin has had a deep clean. My skin noticeably looks smoother, pores are less prominent and the overall texture of my skin looks and feels much softer. I even used this on the morning of my Wedding Day because I knew my makeup would apply so much better after exfoliating. I love this so much I even got their body exfoliator which I’ve also been loving.

I had struggled for far too long trying to find something that could remove my eye makeup without leaving my eyes feeling itchy, red and sore until I came across Boots eye makeup remover pads. They come in a handy little pot making it great for travelling! They are basically a pot of 40 makeup wipes for your eyes. They are fragrance free and remove every single trace of my eye make-up within seconds. The only thing I have found is that it claims to remove water proof mascara and on the very rare occasion that I do wear it, I do struggle to get it all off with these. But I don’t wear waterproof mascara all that often so these are perfect for me!

I’ve been using the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado for about a year now and I love how moisturising this is around the eye area. It makes applying under eye concealer so much easier after using this and it must be good if my husband thinks I haven’t noticed him using it! For such a small pot this is actually lasting me a fair while! The only thing is I do think it is slightly over priced, so if you have any other eye cream suggestions please do let me know as I think I’d like to try something more for anti-ageing, y’know now I’m nearing the end of my 20’s this girl gotta prevent those wrinkles!

Now that Spring is here I’ve dipped back into my Clarins HydraQuench Cream for days where I need a little more moisture. I love the Clarins Hydraquench range, I always find myself adding these products into my skincare routine during Spring/Summer to add a little more moisture into the skin which is much needed after a day in the sun! I also find their Hydrquench range leaves a cool, calming sensation on my skin, making it the perfect addition to my spring/summer skincare. I love the luxe packaging of this moisturiser; there’s just something about a glass container that makes me feel like I’m really spoiling myself with a product.

I tend to use this as a day cream as although it is for normal-dry skin, it is a lightweight formula. This cream also has the added benefit of containing Hyaloronic Acid! I’m not sure if you can still buy this exact cream anymore as Clarins have updated their Hydraquench range, though I think they may have just changed their packaging and added SPF so I will link their new cream which looks pretty much the same as this one.

For those days where I feel like a bit more of a pamper and my skin needs some extra tlc, I like to use a face mask. The Clarins HydraQuench Cream Mask is one of my favourites. It is a very creamy texture, just what you’d expect from the name and contains Katafray Bark Extract which aids in restoring the skin’s ideal moisture balance. I apply with my fingers all over my face and neck, avoiding the eye area, and leave on for around 5 to 10 minutes, rinsing away with warm water. I remove any excess with a wet cotton pad. My skin instantly feels soft and hydrated. I like to use this once a week and my skin definitely thanks me for it!

The one thing missing from my regime is spf. I know I know, it’s so bad! I’ve tried heaps and all of them seem to break me out. If anyone has any good suggestions please let me know I’d be forever grateful!

Oh and FYI the ESPA Diffuser in the photograph is THE most amazing scent in my bathroom! I received it for my birthday and it’s pretty much ran out so I need to invest in another (the only thing is they are quite pricey, but they smell heavenly).

New Beauty Favourites

A few months ago I found myself rummaging through my makeup collection to find products I’d barely touched/not used but have fallen in love with ever since. I’ve chosen my top three to share with you guys.

The first product I’ve found myself reaching for is the Maybelline Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation; the brands first ever liquid foundation in cushion form. This is perfect for those days I need a little more coverage than my usual Glossier Skin Tint. It had been hanging around in my makeup bag since before Christmas and I’d only used it once. My winter shade is Number 10, Ivory and is the perfect colour match. I would say this is the closest colour match to my natural skin over any foundation I have ever used; definitely a winner for me!

I love how compact this product is, making it great for travelling and popping in my handbag! It does come with it’s own applicator but I prefer to use my trusty Real Techniques sponge.  The foundation is light to medium coverage, easily build-able and blends like a dream. It leaves my skin looking fresh and dewy all day long and has an SPF of 20. I have dry-very dry skin and it doesn’t cling to any dry patches. This foundation leaves my skin looking glowy and hydrated, what more could I ask for? I will definitely be purchasing again.

The only down side is the shade range; there are only 8 to choose from, but if there is a shade for you then I highly recommend checking this product out.

I’ve seen so many You-tubers rave about the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer I just had to get my hands on it. I’d wanted it for so long but it is so hard to get hold of here in the UK so when my husband managed to get it from QVC for my birthday I was so excited. A girl gotta hide these dark under eye circles from sleepless nights with the pup and oh my, does this do the job!

This concealer has such high coverage so a little really does go a long way. I’ve been using this under my eyes, round my nose and a tiny bit on my cheeks. Hands down this is my favourite concealer ever. If you manage to get your hands on the Shape Tape you definitely won’t be disappointed!

The final makeup product I’ve fallen in love with all over again is the Nars Liquid Laguna Bronzer.

I’ve been using my Chanel Bronzer for over a year and haven’t touched any other bronzer until now. The product comes with a pump making the liquid so easy to dispense and is best to use once shaken. The colour is beautiful and looks very natural on the skin. I use my fingers to dot the bronzer where I want it and use my damp sponge to blend out. The bronzer has tiny golden shimmers running through it, perfect for a sunkissed glow. This is definitely one of my favourite beauty products atm so if like me you love a cream bronzer this is one to try!

Affordable Homewear & Fashion Haul

I feel like Matalan have really upped their game recently, both in their homewear and fashion so I thought I’d share a few bits that I picked up from my local store.

20180227140130_IMG_1422 (2)
I’d been eyeing up these Scandinavian style planters for a while on various websites but didn’t want to pay the price tag so was holding out for somewhere local to stock some. To say I was excited when I saw a complete dupe of the ones I wanted in Matalan is an understatement (but they came in a set of two, yes two, and in different sizes, for less than what I would have paid for one!) My husband definitely thought I was over reacting over what is essentially 2 plant pots with legs. He thinks I’m mad how excited I get over homewear but what does he know eh! I potted an Aloe Vera plant in one and a Monstera Deliciosa (definitely bought the latter because this is supposed to be a plant that isn’t easily killed -we shall see…) They add a pop of colour to our predominantly white and grey interior and make a great addition to our hallway and reading corner.

I didn’t really need another Winter jacket especially with Spring just around the corner, but I couldn’t resist this cobalt blue puffer. I’m usually a black, white and grey kinda gal but for a touch of colour this looks great! I sized up because I wanted a more oversized look, plus I wanted my chunky knits to fit underneath. I’ve been wearing this to run errands and walk the lil sausage and it’s kept me so warm, particularly with all this snow we seem to be getting atm!

Their Activewear section is definitely my go to. When I was in NYC I had splurged on some pretty pricey yoga leggings but after a few washes they looked old and worn so I wasn’t prepared to spend that amount again. I picked up three different styles from Matalan recently and have literally been living in them. They look and feel really good quality; they’re lasting well and are super comfy. I particularly love the black mesh paneled leggings which are totally in this season and makes a standard legging stand out that little bit more. I also grabbed some plain black and marl grey leggings because who doesn’t need them in their wardrobe?

The Dachshund Down-low

Mummy has let me take her over blog today, she says I’m mature enough to use her laptop now that I’ve turned 1.

Because it’s been nearly a year since my humans bought me home and so many people always stop and ask us what it’s like having me, she’s told me to give you guys what she calls ‘The Dachshund Down-low.’ Basically, all the naughty things I get up to behind closed doors. So for those of you who may be thinking of getting a Miniature Sausage Dog like me, then you may not want to keep reading!

1. For such a small dog, we have one hell of a bark on us. You’ll hear us before you see us that’s for sure!

2. Your bed is now my bed and let me tell you, these long bodies can reallyyyy stretch out

3. I like to leave mummy and daddy little surprises around the house. Surprise meaning poops when their not looking

4. My favourite chews stink to high heaven. Who even knew that pizzles, aka bulls penis, was so yummy? I once stayed at my girlfriends house and her mum took us to a really posh restaurant and whipped one of these bad boys out – she had absolutely no idea what they were because my humans didn’t think to tell her!

5. Personal space is no longer a thing, even bath time you have company

6. When you ride up front and make daddy sit in the back, he knows the pecking order in this family

7. When you see your humans kiss you gotta get involved too

8. Every human who enters the house definitely needs their face cleaned

9. When you know to keep your stinky treats on the blanket but persist on bringing it onto their new sofa

10. Rain. I’m not walking. Nope. I’ll just sit right here thank you.

11. You have a better social life than your humans

12. When 50+ of us sausages take over the local parks/beaches they don’t know what they’re in for

13. You have your own Instagram page with more followers than your humans

14. Cause you’re small you get away with more. I even get my own handbag to be carried around in and when they’re not looking I climb on to the tables

15. You have a bigger wardrobe than your humans. I had 2 Barbour jackets before daddy even got one!

16. No toy lasts longer than 2 minutes and then they ‘go to hospital’ aka, the bin

17. No walk is complete without hearing people ‘ohh and ahh’ over you with the odd ‘look there’s a sausage dog’ thrown in

18. When you’re just too cute so people stop and ask to take photos of you. Where’s my modelling career at?!

19. When you ignore all dogs in the park but as soon as you spot a fellow sausage you’re gone

20. People think we don’t need much exercise, but boy can we walk

21. These lil legs can outrun my humans. I’d give Mo Farah a run for his money

22. Must dig at the bed sheet a thousand times before bedtime

23. Stubborn is my middle name

24. If there’s a blanket in sight then it has my name on it. I’ll either chew a hole in it or burrow so watch where you sit!

25. But most importantly, I bring a smile to my humans faces every single day and they wouldn’t change a thing about me…
