This time last year my husband & I cancelled our traditional UK wedding & made the decision to elope to NYC – just the two of us. It was the best decision we ever made and one we will never regret. I remember having just 8 weeks until our special day with no Bridal dress. We were on a budget, but I wanted to look nice (isn’t that what every bride to be wants?) One year on and with many couples choosing to tie the knot over the Summer months, I thought I’d give any bride to be’s out there some wedding looks for less. Whether you simply don’t have the budget, or just damn right refuse to pay the extortionate prices from bridal stores, these retailers have some great options!
My dress was from a designer called Ben De Lisi, as were my shoes, both stocked in Debenhams (See Our Wedding Day blog post). I have to admit, Debenhams wasn’t a retailer that was top of my list to look at online; I always thought their stock was aimed at a more mature audience, but I was wrong. My Wedding dress had been there all along waiting for me, so they are definitely worth checking out!
This is one I did order from Debenhams but returned as the beading made the dress feel too heavy to treck around Central Park in. However, it was absolutely stunning and definitely worth trying!
Inititally, I picked up this lace detail dress from good ol’ ASOS in the sale for, wait for it….you arn’t even ready…£10!!!!! (arn’t ASOS just the best at selling EVERYTHING?!) and this was the dress I planned on wearing right up until a few days before we flew out to NYC, until… the Ben De Lisi dress from Debenhams came down in price from £200 to £76; it was a sign. Had that dress not been reduced, I would have happily worn this little ASOS number (I even took it to NYC with me for an evening option).
ASOS no longer have this colour in stock (they do have it in other shades though), however, I have seen the white version on many selling sites such as Ebay and Depop, just search for “ASOS KATE LACE DRESS“. Sadly I didn’t get round to wearing mine and it still has the tags on. I have thought about selling it but to be honest, it’s such a beautiful dress I feel like I could wear it for our anniversary or another special occasion.
Here are some other affordable dresses which caught my eye and may be helpful to some of you out there who don’t want to break the bank for your special day.
This Ted Baker dress is in the sale and would be perfect for a simple Ceremony/Registry Office. It’s effortlessly classy yet chic.
This dress from ASOS would be perfect for a Summer wedding/elopement. So simple and flowy, the tie back wins for me and the fact it’s just £27 is a bargain!!
Last years Love Island contestant Olivia Buckland wore this Missguided dress on her recent Hen Do and she rocked it! Definitely for those glamorous bride to be’s out there.
The final dress I came across was this beauty from Nastygal. I don’t know about you but I love a side leg slit, it’s such a flattering style. If you’re feeling body confident, teamed with some simple jewellery and a beautiful bouquet of flowers, this dress really could look beautiful for an intimate Ceremony.
I love that the high street are offering more affordable Bridal dresses. Not everyone wants to blow their budget on a dress they’ll probably only wear for that one day. There are so many alternatives out there and I think all of these dresses would suit a variety of ceremonies! Huge congrats to those of you reading this who will be tying the knot soon or are engaged. I hope this post has helped some of you, I know it would have given me a helping hand this time last year.
